History

Over the years, the Seabiscuit Café has become a favorite Mackinac Island restaurant for locals and tourists alike. The café is named after the famous horse, Seabiscuit, a runt who rose to great popularity after defeating triple-crown winner War Admiral in 1938. The Seabiscuit Café serves as a tribute to the famous racehorse and other types of the loving animal.

Before there was the Seabiscuit Café, the property was a bank building used in the late 1800s. In later years, lifelong Mackinac Island residents Debra and Sandra Orr took on the challenge of renovating the building and making it into something special. The Orrs took great care in keeping its integrity by preserving the original brick walls and hardwood floors, while also adding some historic flair with equestrian themed décor. Now, the Seabiscuit Café is recognized as a cozy, comfortable place to enjoy a meal with friends and family.

Location

Seabiscuit Café is located on Main Street, the heart of Mackinac Island. Surrounded by shops and attractions, the Seabiscuit Café is a fantastic place to take a break from the hustle and bustle. Once you step inside, you will be transported back in time to the era of Seabiscuit. Take a seat one of the western-style tables or booths and enjoy the relaxed, homey ambiance. The classic wrought iron furnishings, exposed brick walls, and timeless wood accents add to the comfortable vibe, making Seabiscuit Café the perfect place for an early breakfast, classy dinner, or a night out on the town. The options are endless!
